Last week, we got you ready for The BPM Festival‘s highly anticipated return to Playa Del Carmen, marking the seventh year that the Festival has taken place in the lush, coastal city.
We highlighted the best way to kick off the festival on January 3rd, the My Favorite Robot Label Showcase, which, this year, takes place in the form of a Crossing Wires Beach Party at one of the newly added venues, Fusion Beach Club.
This week we take a look at the Mexicali-based deep house & nu-disco label Mexa Records, owned by DJ & Producer, and friend of WOA Louie Fresco.
While The BPM Festival is attended by a large international community, with a strong North American, and particularly Torontonian presence, the festival would not be what it is without the strong influence of Mexican culture. Many of the staff, sound crew, stage construction, DJs, and participants hail from within Mexico’s borders, and contribute to the incredible vibe the […] + Read More
This Monday, December 9th, our good friends Joel Waznicky & James MacGregor, better known as Deadly Vanity release their debut EP, World Stop Turning on Bohemian Yacht Club.
We’ve been lucky to feature them on our podcast series, as well as seeing them open and reside at a few spots in the city, so it comes as no surprise to us when they put forward such a stellar first release.
The first, and title track off the EP features a catchy, quick 122 bpm bass-line, combined with a great vocal contribution from Mercy – It’s got that melodic and melancholy, “it’s the end of the world but I don’t care” vibe that has become synonymous with […] + Read More
If you’ve been to The BPM Festival before, you’re probably familiar with Toronto-based My Favorite Robot Records kicking-off the festival as the best opening day party over the last few years!
From the many MFR artists that have graced the sandy decks at Canibal Royal, there’s been no better way to kick off our favourite festival then spending a day with the robots, enjoying the great beach views and slugging down the drinks after some much-needed fish tacos and ceviche.
This year, the MFR showcase takes place in the form of a Crossing Wires Beach Party that will once again kick off the festival, on January 3rd, starting at noon! However, this year sees new venues being added, and subsequently, some venues no longer being used, and it seems as though Canibal Royal is one of them that’s been left off the list.
While it certainly will be missed, this year’s label showcase is taking place at the newly-added Fusion Beach Club which, while sounding a little more EDC than BPM, we’re sure will be up scratch with what we’re all used to seeing from the quality Playa Del Carmen venues. + Read More
This month, we’re excited to bring you another exclusive hour of music from one of the best up-and-coming Toronto-based duos.
After recently signing with Dubfire’s SCI+TEC label, Vince & Val, better known as The Junkies, have been playing shows, festivals and label showcases from Ibiza to Bulgaria, and everywhere in between!!
Their sound is bass heavy, high-bpm tech-house at its finest, and WOA021 follows that mantra to a T.
From the opening track sampling Marvin Gaye’s “You’re all I Need To Get By”, to the deeper and darker tech we’ve come to love from The Junkies, this mix is all you’ll need to get up and dance off that case of the Monday’s!
Catch The Junkies alongside Carlo Lio December 21st in Toronto, and at 2014′s The BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
Tonight, Detroit house legend STACEY PULLEN returns for Blackprint Saturdays at RYZE TORONTO.
We’ll be streaming all the opening support from the likes of Andrew Choe, Jimmy Be, as well as a special b2b set from Anthony D’amico & Phil Andrade!!
