We’re only one week away from the much anticipated Solo Exhibition by Javid, entitled ‘Alaama (She Knows)!

Combining a life-long artistic passion and strong social consciousness, the multimedia works on display at 185 Augusta next week will form a representation of Javid’s vision of feminine divinity. By using a wide range of techniques and formats, ‘Alaama will blur the lines of mural art, arabic calligraphy, graffiti and architecture to immerse the audience in an artist’s expression of Sufi Islam.

Be sure to join us next Thursday, August 23rd from 7-10pm at 185 Augusta Ave in Kensington Market for the opening reception; there is no cover for this event but there will be plenty of snacks, drinks and socializing!

In order to get a better idea of what Javid’s art is all about, check out this brief introduction to his work:

Today commences the beginning of the Osheaga music festival in Montréal, Canada. With a star-studded lineup spanning all genres, thousands of eager music-lovers will travel to La Belle Province this weekend for an unforgettable experience.

To celebrate, we got the Montréal-based deep-house duo known as Jealous Lovers to make us an exclusive podcast for the 6th edition of MINDSETS.

The two members that comprise Jealous Lovers, Christopher Mac and Darien Pons, met in Montreal’s vibrant nightlife scene in the summer of 2008. A few days ago, Toronto had the pleasure of hosting The All Day I Dream team; tech-house legend Lee Burridge, and his equally as talented partner behind the decks, Matthew Dekay.

Playing alongside local favorites such as Addy, Rafwat & Chorniy, Nathan Barato, Joee Cons and Manzone & Strong, Sunday was one boat cruise you did not want to miss.

Just a warning, this photo album is known to cause withdrawal symptoms which may not be curable for the rest of the work week, so view ‘em at your own risk…. but do be sure to tag & comment until your heart is content!
